Tune Farm has completed it’s third and final year in partnership with AAMU as a recipient of the USDA Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program grant.
With the passing of Tune Farm’s founding farmer, Diane Tune, the farm’s future seemed uncertain. The USDA’s Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development grant gave us the opportunity to continue as a working farm and to make a meaningful contribution to Alabama’s growing community of beginning farmers.
We feel extremely fortunate to have been awarded this grant and it has made it possible for us to continue our mission in support of sustainable farming practices as Alabama’s first certified organic farm.
Although the farm has offered paid Internships almost since its inception, the BFRDP grant gave us the opportunity to do much more. We continued to offer Internships on the farm and were able to fully “incubate” two beginning farms over the course of the BFRDP grant period.
